THE COSMO COLLOQUIA

At the heart of our work are the annual Cosmo Colloquia. This is where we host lively, multidisciplinary debates among participants from Odessa, Kyiv and Lviv, Boston, Berlin and London to tackle big, tough questions about Ukraine’s and Europe’s future. Our launch colloquium, held in December 2024 and titled Cosmopolis, explored cosmopolitanism as both idea and practice in Ukraine’s past and future. We will announce the theme of the second colloquium soon, with the third scheduled for 2026.

ANTHROPOLOGY

ANTHROPOLOGY AT THE ODESSA KITCHEN

Anthropology at the Odessa Kitchen is a new podcast series created to introduce anthropology to Ukraine at a moment when its insights are most urgently needed. Modern socio-cultural anthropology does not exist in Ukraine on an institutional level. Yet the discipline’s methods—patient observation, attention to everyday life, and an ear for voices often drowned out—are a vital intellectual resource for contemporary Ukraine.

CULTURE

ODESSA TO THE WORLD

We help Odessa’s artists, musicians, and cultural organisations build clear, inviting websites that connect their work to the wider world — and bring the world closer to Odessa. By combining modern web design, user-friendly interfaces, and digital storytelling, we ensure that the creativity and cultural richness of Odessa reach audiences far beyond the city. With the support of the European Research Council, our project fosters collaboration, amplifies local voices, and creates lasting digital spaces where art, music, and culture can thrive and inspire

EDUCATION

COSMOPOLIS X RICHILIIEU

As part of our outreach, Cosmopolis works with the historic Richelieu Lycée, Odessa’s oldest and most distinguished school for gifted students. Members of our collective — including anthropologist Anastasia Piliavsky, poet and biologist Mikhail Son, and historian Vladislav Vod’ko — volunteer their time to give talks, share their research, and involve students in lively discussions across fields from marine biology to anthropology.
